In order to cover their additional expenses, suppliers who bill insurance companies must increase the price of the product 3 to 10 times (depending on the dollar amount). Here are some of those additional expenses: endless benefit verification and authorization phone calls and faxes, tremendous amount of paperwork, complicated billing process which requires special skills and training, denial of payment for any reason, reimbursements that take months to get, office staff working on claims for months, etc. Most insurance plans (including Medicare) have co-pay or/and deductible amount what is a percent of the total billed amount (or from the artificially inflated price of the product).
